The 2021 Queensland Science Contest was held by the Science Teachers Association in Queensland (STAQ) during the month of October. The Contest is open to Grade Prep to Year 12 students state-wide and each year, Soil Science Australia awards a $300 bursary to the student/s who submit the best soil-related entry.

PSK staff and SSA committee member, Samantha, along with Silvana were proud to represent Soil Science Australia to select the winner of the bursary.  This was the 7th time judging for Silvana!  This year there were 17 projects that had a soils focus and were eligible for the bursary. Many of the project topics focused on different soil quality parameters and their influence on vegetation.

Samantha and Silvana, who offer a soil testing service, enjoyed seeing the work of these budding agriculturalists!  With so many great entries this year, Samantha and Silvana decided to award a first, second and tied third place prizes to the value of $125, $75, $50 and $50 respectively.   A virtual awards ceremony will be held in November to present the students with their awards.
