Acid Sulfate Soil Workshop: Awareness, Sampling Requirements, Field Testing
PSK recently held a workshop tailored to geotechnical engineers who often undertake acid sulfate soil sampling in conjunction with geotechnical investigations. The workshop included modules on how to undertake a desktop acid sulfate soil assessment, how to identify actual and potential acid sulfate soils on site, how to log them and how to sample and store them appropriately. Also covered were typical management measures using case studies.
All workshop attendees then had the chance to get their hands dirty and perform acid sulfate soil indicative (screening) tests on some nasty potential and actual acid sulfate soil samples from around SE Queensland. Attendees were treated to some cool ‘erupting’ soil samples. The screening tests help to cement the theory learned during the workshop.
Overall it was a great day with lots of interesting discussions about our favourite soils!
