SILVANA PRESENTS AT THE SOIL SCIENCE AUSTRALIA AGM
On 30 August 2019, Silvana was invited by Soil Science Australia to deliver a presentation at the Annual General Meeting at the Treasury in Brisbane.
Before a crowd of 50 comprising mostly soil scientists from government (DES, DNRME) and academia, and their spouses and friends, Silvana presented on her involvement on the New Parallel Runway Project.
At a cost of 1.4 billion dollars, the project has involved the placement of 11 million cubic metres of dredge sand from Moreton Bay onto land to prepare the site for construction of the runway. Silvana spoke about her experience as Project Manager for the offshore investigations in Moreton Bay, assessing the quality of the sand within the source area for suitability as surcharge and structural fill, and her role developing acid sulfate soil management plans for various aspect of the project.
With the runway due to open next year, this talk gave regular flyers an insight, and therefore an appreciation, of the magnitude of works required to construct this key piece of Brisbane infrastructure.
